FAQ
A sworn translation is a translation performed by an official translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A photocopy of the original document translated must always accompany the translation. It also comes with a certification at the end with the translator’s details and signature that accredits its accuracy.
Sworn translations are usually required when a translation needs to be used for administration purposes or governmental requirements.
In each case, the official organisation to which translations must be submitted will tell you whether or not the translation needs to be a sworn one.
Sworn translations are provided by officially recognized translators who have been authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their seal and signature ensure the validity of a foreign document. All their translations hold official status in front of official authorities and organisations.
A sworn translation is usually officially recognized in the country in question.
However, its international recognition can only be assessed by studying each particular case, according to the specific requirements of the requesting authority.
For example, a translation performed in Germany in front of a German court will not necessarily be recognized in France or Italy. For this reason, at Berba, we always seek to choose a qualified translator directly in the target country of the document to ensure its acceptance by the local requesting authority.
